The other week I happened upon a local bee hive relocation. The bees which had taken up residence in a large neighbourhood tree were hindering a springtime prune from the local council and a little close to home on a thoroughfare for a school down the road. To save them the local Bayside Beekeeper’s Association were called in to relocate the colony to a safer place for both bees and the residents. The beekeepers also explained there were two hives in the same entrance to the tree, the European stinging bee and the more child friendly native Australian stingless bee which would stay on in the hive. Cheers to the Bayside Beekeeper’s Association for the chat and letting me get in nice and close with my camera!
